We’re absolutely delighted to announce that we have received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for an exciting new creative heritage project exploring the history of Newport!

The project will bring together an intergenerational group of adults to explore the fascinating legacy of the Morgan family, Tredegar House and some of Newport’s most important landmarks and stories, taking place at the Riverfront.

Through creative workshops, supported visits to heritage sites, arts, crafts, textiles, mixed media and performance, our participants will research, question, interpret and reimagine Newport’s history from their own perspectives. We’ll be exploring not just the stories that have traditionally been told, but whose voices might have been missing, looking at class, labour, power, community and the lives of ordinary people.

The project will culminate in a public showcase combining visual art and performance, giving our participants the chance to share their creativity, discoveries and interpretations with the wider community.

Most importantly, this funding will enable people experiencing isolation, poor mental health and other barriers to participation to access local heritage, visit places they may not otherwise be able to visit, build confidence, develop new skills and create something together.
