Our ‘Community Craft and Connect’ group has had a creative few months but it has also brought some challenges. We meet weekly and use the sessions to build on our skills and making crafts. After the busy time contributing work for the ‘Bio Tapestry’ with ‘Gwent Green Grid’, ‘The Riverfront’ and the lovely ‘Mice Ladies’ group, 2026 has had a slower pace.

We have explored designs made with wire and beads. With a lovely collection of beads donated by a group member, we have enjoyed turning them into hanging decorations, dragonflies and jewellery.

In March, there was an unexpected challenge as the tutor had to temporarily pull out of classes due to an ankle injury. The group chose to continue meeting and sharing skills, with a member teaching everyone how to weave cotton braided friendship bracelets. These proved to be a hit and the tutor also got to learn a new technique. Another member is already a whizz making ‘Kumihimo’ bracelets in a dazzling array of colour combinations, their favourite being the colours of a certain local football club.

These are perfect examples of how important the regular sessions are to everyone and the progress that has been made over time. There is trust and friendship bonds have been formed, all improving wellbeing and confidence.
We are very proud of each other and look forward to hopefully growing, with the help of further funding.
